SHAMIR
Marble sculptures · Miha Plohl · Slovenia

Carved in stone.
Alive in a space.

Something familiar. Something you cannot quite name. Two marble sculptures between creature and fossil, rough rhythm and a quiet, polished centre.

Two characters.
One conversation.

The carved surface catches the light. The polished centre holds it. See the actual sculptures turn, then imagine where you would put them.

Studies in placement

Where would
yours belong?

A private room. A window that makes you stop. A moment before the auction begins. Three imagined settings for two real sculptures.

A quiet companion.

A reason to stop.

A study in anticipation

Before the
first bid.

An imagined auction preview with Shamir I and II. A visual exploration of how setting changes our encounter with an object.

This is a fictional scene. Neither an actual auction listing nor a record of a sale.

All room, gallery, window and auction settings on this page are AI-generated visualizations based on photographs of the actual works. Two stories
in stone.

Each sculpture has its own journey from rough form to finished surface. Photographs and two short films offer a closer look, a reverse view and a sense of scale in the hand. Open a photograph to see it larger.

From a block
to a character.

In the early stages, the form is still held within a rectangular piece of stone. The curling body, openings and rhythm of cuts emerge gradually. A view from the other side reveals how differently the same sculpture can read.

The photograph in the hand shows its scale during the making. The finished Shamir I measures 24 × 20 × 15 cm. It also has a hidden function: a ring, a small key or another small object can be concealed beneath it. The film demonstrates this feature; photograph 02 shows the opening from the other side.

One stone.
Two surfaces.

The smooth centre and roughly carved edges reflect light differently. Close-up photographs reveal small pale structures in the dark stone, stepped cuts and the transition between the two surfaces.

Shamir II measures 30 × 24 × 17 cm and has a similar hidden function to Shamir I: a ring, a small key or another small object can be concealed beneath it. An earlier photograph shows the centre before finishing, while the short film brings you close to the surface work.
